Independent means that individuals who are separate from those who develop or maintain a system perform software-testing activities. Before implementation of a system, management must be presented with evidence that a system operates as intended. This evidence must also include the results of controls testing. The test results must be documented and available for examination. The documentation should demonstrate that the control and functional requirements operate as intended.
Verification is the demonstration of consistency, completeness and correctness of the information system at each state and between each phase of development. Verification activities include checklists, inspections, walk-throughs, technical && product reviews, phase audits, reconciliations, managerial reviews, and post implementation reviews.
Validation is the determination of the correctness of the final program or software produced from a development project with respect to customer needs and requirements. Validation activities include unit testing, integration testing, validation testing, system testing, regression testing and customer acceptance testing.
